Whitman realizes his mourning is not his alone, it is a national grief, and so he tries to vocalize his in a way that can be shared by everyone; he did so by writing this poem (Rollyson). Whitman, â€Å"drawn to the idea of a president that would emerge from the frontier west,† admired Lincoln more than most (Kreidler). His devastation by the loss of President Lincoln, coming from his â€Å"belief[s] and fervent admiration,† can be seen in When Lilacs last in the Dooryard Bloom’s, but more notably in his most popular work, O Captain! My Captain! (Kreidler). The United States Should Be Vaccinated Against Disease

I believe that all children in the United States should be vaccinated against disease. There is a large argument in today society involving childhood vaccinations. The argument is whether children should be forced to have mandatory vaccines, or if parents should be allowed to refuse these vaccines. One of the main reasons that parents are skeptical of vaccines, is because there have been more recorded cases of children experiencing serious side effects after receiving the vaccines. Now with more and more cases of vaccinated diseases popping up all over the country, the issue is becoming serious. According to the CDC, more than 20 percent of children in America are not vaccinated against disease. Even if a parent wanted to vaccinate his or her child, it could still become sick because a child that was old enough to receive their vaccinations wasn’t vaccinated. People also argue that the ingredients in vaccines are harmful and toxic. There are toxic ingredients in vaccines, but they are harmless in the amount that is given to the child. In fact, children receive more aluminum from breast milk then they do vaccines. Finally, vaccines save the government copious amounts of money in societal cost. Between 1994 and 2014 the government was estimated to save around 1.38 trillion dollars in societal cost including savings from preventing lost productivity due to disability and early death. Similarly, the Unites States saves about 27 dollars for every one dollar invested in the DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Whooping cough) vaccinations. In contrast, many parents state that it should be their choice whether their children are vaccinated or not. One of the biggest contributing theories about vaccines is that they cause serious side effects. These side effects include anaphylaxis and intussusceptions, a type of bowel blockage. However, after studying in UC Davis for over a year accompanying with ESL writing courses taken every quarter, I found that ESL exams provided by CIC seem to have some imperfections: the writing section of the exams are not extensive enough to let students practice writing different styles of essays. After moving to the United States in 1916, he established branches of the UNIA in New York’s Harlem and many other ghettos all over the country. After moving to New York, he found work as a printer by day. influenced. At night he would speak on street corners, much like he did in London’s Hyde Park. It was then that Garvey perceived a leadership vacuum among people of African ancestry. On 9 May 1916, he held his first public lecture in  New York City  at  St Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery  and undertook a 38-state speaking tour. In May 1917, Garvey and thirteen others formed the first UNIA division outside Jamaica and began advancing ideas to promote social, political, and  economic freedom  for blacks. On 2 July, the  East St. Louis riots  broke out. On 8 July, Garvey delivered an address, titled â€Å"The Conspiracy of the East St. Louis Riots†, at  Lafayette Hall  in  Harlem. During the speech, he declared the riot was â€Å"one of the bloodiest outrages against mankind†. By October, rancor within the UNIA had begun to set in. A split occurred in the Harlem division, with Garvey enlisted to become its leader; although he technically held the same position in Jamaica. Garvey next set about the business of developing a program to improve the conditions of those of African ancestry â€Å"at home and abroad† under UNIA auspices. On 17 August 1918, publication of the widely distributed  Negro World  newspaper began. Garvey worked as an editor without pay until November 1920. By June 1919 the membership of the organization had grown to over two million. On 27 June 1919, the  Black Star Line  of  Delawarewas incorporated by the members of the UNIA, with Garvey as President. By September, it obtained its first ship. Much fanfare surrounded the inspection of the S. S. Yarmouth  and its rechristening as the S. S. Frederick Douglass  on 14 September 1919. Such a rapid accomplishment garnered attention from many. Garvey was black and he was proud of it. In 1920 he convened an international convention to unify blacks and encourage trade between Africa and the US. On September 10th, 1919 the British colonial secretary authorized the West Indian governments to introduce legislation to suppress The Negro World and other publications considered seditious. Perhaps Garvey’s greatest contribution to the uplifting of our people was his ability to find a formula for organizing around the African principle: the greatest good for the greatest number. This was reflected in the first International Convention of Negro Peoples of the World in Madison Square Garden, in New York in 1920. Over 25,000 Black people from all over the world witnessed the choosing of red, black, and green as the colors of the Provisional Government.
